Adaptive Clothing: Specially designed clothing to provide dignity and ease of dressing.
Benefit and Entitlement Education and Advocacy: Assisting Service Members, Veterans, and their families in understanding their military and government benefits and entitlements. These organizations observe and report trends and advocate improvements in military and government benefits and entitlements on behalf of Service Members, Veterans, and their families.
Caregiver Support:
Care and Comfort at Military Hospitals: Providing meals, entertainment, and other quality of life services to patients and their families at military or Veterans hospitals
Support Groups: Connecting with others in like experiences for the purpose of fostering mutual support
Children’s Services:
Camps: Providing camping opportunities for children
Childcare Resources: Subsidies or grants for childcare costs
Extra Curricular Activity Grants: Grants for enrichment activities for children.
Communications Support: Resources to enhance long distance connection between others in the family and support group. These include phone resources as well as web based support.
Counseling and Faith Based Services
Mental Health - In-Person: Connecting with counselors who schedule face-to-face counseling sessions
Mental Health – Telephonic or Web Based: Connecting with counselors providing over the phone or web based counseling sessions to Service Members and their families.
Spiritual Health – Well-being resources to promote spiritual growth and healing.
Employment Assistance:
Employment Services: Resume and job placement services
Vocational Rehabilitation: Working with a counselor to successfully retrain for job placement in a new field. Connecting with internship opportunities to assist in future job placement
Financial Assistance:
Financial Management: Helping individuals reestablish control of their financial situation, through setting appropriate goals and developing realistic plans for accomplishment.
Financial Grants or Loans: Providing monetary assistance in cases of extreme hardship
Funding Other Organizations: Funding other organizations operating programs in support of the Severely Wounded and their families.
Housing Assistance:
Adapting Existing Home: Assessing need and modifying existing homes of Severely Injured Service Members or Veterans for increased mobility or to increase or simplify care
Building New Accessible Home: Building new homes for Severely Injured Service Members and Veterans when it is not possible to adapt the existing homes of these individuals to increase mobility or simplify care
Repairs on Existing Home: Connecting families with local support of general home repair needs. This might be in the form of connecting families with the necessary repair company, then the family is responsible for payment, or in some extreme cases the organization might provide both scheduling and grants for the repairs
Temporary Housing During Outpatient Medical Treatment: Providing housing options when families are required to spend extended time at medical care
facilities other than military hospitals or Veterans hospitals
Temporary Housing at VA or Military Hospitals: Providing housing options in conjunction with extended stays for medical treatment at Veterans and military hospitals
Mobility: Increasing mobility through providing equipment such as segways and wheelchairs
Moving and Relocation Assistance: Providing financial assistance to aid in moving and relocating due to medical treatment or employment needs
PTSD Assistance: Providing education and services related to symptoms of combat stress or trauma. These services might include self - assessments, helpful information, quick links, and support groups as well as specific programs designed to lessen the severity of symptoms
Pet Care: Homes for pets during times family must travel for medical treatment or might need to be away on vacation
Recreation:
Adaptive Sports: Providing activities and sports opportunities to those with physical or cognitive disabilities
Retreats: Short term events that provide stress release and relaxation and a chance to get away for a weekend or perhaps up to a week
Respite Care: Providing short term breaks from care-giving duties for the purpose of relieving stress and restoring the energy of caregivers
Scholarships: Education grants for Service Members/Veterans or their family members
TBI Services: Working to improve rehabilitation and other services for individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury and supporting family members and caregivers of those sustaining such an injury
Transportation Assistance:
Adapting Vehicles: Providing assessment services and financial grants to modify vehicles to accommodate a driver or passenger with special needs. Some examples: installing automotive hand controls, vehicle conversions for wheelchair accessibility, etc.
Air Transport to Medical Appointments: Providing air transport to prescribed medical appointments necessary for Severely Injured Service Member/Veteran’s treatment or rehabilitation.
Auto Transportation To Medical Appointments: Connecting Service Members or Veterans with those able to transport them by car to medical appointments within the local area
Emergency Auto Repair: Providing funding to support viable emergency auto repairs. Most organizations limit this to maintaining a functioning primary vehicle
Veterans Assistance: Providing counselors to assist persons in understanding the Veterans Administration claims process and providing advocates, when needed, to get the process back on track. Assisting Veterans in understanding their benefits and entitlements as well as advocating Veterans needs.
